Black XL Evelyn was my first dress. I liked it so much trying it on, that I started my 30 day challenge right then and there in front of the mirror. I like jeans and pants, and was unused to wearing dresses, so I was pleasantly surprised to feel so feminine all the time. It was described as having a V-neck, and I wasn't sure I would like that on this dress, but it's a gentle wide "V". The French terry fabric is lovely. I wore it in late-summer/early-fall, and though I sweated profusely many or those days, I still found it comfortable. It never did smell! (I do wish it were longer.)
Comfortable and fits well.
I decided to go for Evelyn even though I'm very much pear shaped and I love it! I love how comfy it is and my husband loves it probably more than any of my dresses! I feel effortlessly put together and classy any time I put this on and seldom do anything to accessorize it because it's just so pretty on it's own. If you've got bigger hips and avoided it for that reason, I encourage you to give it a try!
For reference, I'm 146 lbs, 5'6", 35 bust/30 waist/43-44 hips and this is a medium.
Perfect straight out of the box!
This is a great LBD for cooler months, especially with the sleeve length, and will be perfect for my trip to Italy in the shoulder season, but I did make some very simple alterations to make it work better for my particular body type. I’m an athletic, pear-shaped 41 year old gal with wide shoulders, small bust, thicker in the hips/thighs, and muscular arms and legs. My most “feminine” feature is my waist, so boxy clothes aren’t very flattering on me. I was hoping this sheath dress might go in at the waist a little, but this dress is very straight. Luckily the side seams are straight and simple so I was able to take them in a little. Also, with my thicker legs, the knee-length hem of this dress is not great for me. I took it up a couple of inches, which was also an easy fix. With these changes, it is perfect for me, and it goes with EVERYTHING. The fabric is stretchy and soft, I can dress it up, wear it to work (I’m a librarian), or wear it on a casual weekend trip to the grocery store. So many options, with different jackets, leggings, shoes, and accessories…just wanted to warn my fellow pear-shaped ladies that it may not work for you, if you’re not willing to alter it.
